How to ride a motorcycle and buying one?
The truck I have now is a manual, and I've been driving it for a few years now. Last year I bought myself a 150cc scooter, and it was a lot of fun, but I sold it. Ok, maybe not a lot of fun, but still fun. I am thinking about getting a motorcycle for this summer. Is there a lot of difference between a shifting a car and a motorcycle? I have ridden a bike a couple times in the past. My first time I flipped the bike revving too high and let off the clutch too fast. The second time was fine but I didn't get to ride long.
I was thinking about a Kawasaki 250, or a 600-750cc. The second time I rode a bike it was a 750, and it liked the weight and feel of it. The scooter was ok, but I am pretty sure I'd like more acceleration. Is 250cc enough larger than 150? I do plan on taking a couple longer trips on it, possibly with a passenger (100-200 miles round trip). Last variable is I am a big-ish guy, 6'1 220lbs. Which would be a better idea for a bike for myself?
I think you are supposed to shift to first gear before you stop? Is getting going from a stop the same as a car, should I just ride the clutch "slow" at first to get a feel? When do you shift on a bike, you are supposed to shift at higher RPMs (5000, 7000?)? Is rev matching the same for bikes and cars?
I have been looking at used bikes, what is high mileage for a motorcycle? I have heard 20,000 is about the end of life for a bike, and I see mostly bikes for sale in the 3000-12,000 mile range.
Thanks in advance.
No my parents don't have a burial plan, but if I die lots of people get money.
